About Coolidge

Coolidge is a small agricultural city in central Pinal County, in the growth corridor between Phoenix and Tucson. In 1925, after the Coolidge Dam transformed the flat desert into rich farmland, R.J. Jones laid out an 80-acre townsite; the city was named for the U.S. President who dedicated the Coolidge Dam in 1930 and incorporated in 1945 (per Arizona Memory Project/AZ State Library). Population was 13,218 in the 2020 Census (U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts), with estimates nearing 20,000 by 2024–2025 as new subdivisions arrive. Coolidge's claim to fame is that Casa Grande Ruins National Monument sits in Coolidge, not Casa Grande — the 14th-century Hohokam Great House draws hundreds of thousands of visitors. The economy mixes agriculture, manufacturing, and a growing number of Phoenix/Tucson commuters.
