About Mammoth
Mammoth is a former copper-mining town in the San Pedro River Valley of Pinal County, founded around 1872 as Mammoth Camp to serve the nearby Mammoth Mine and incorporated in 1958. Population was 1,076 at the 2020 census. Until 2003, when it closed, Mammoth served as a bedroom community for the San Manuel Mine. Minerals from the old Mammoth-St. Anthony Mine — including dioptase and wulfenite specimens — are found in major mineral collections worldwide. The nearby ghost town of Copper Creek (and the vanished Tiger townsite) are popular local attractions.
