About Superior
Superior is a former copper-mining town in eastern Pinal County, about 60 miles east of Phoenix on U.S. Route 60. It grew up around the Magma Mine and the town of Pinal City in the late 1800s; population was about 2,400–2,800 in the 2020s. The town bills itself as a gateway to the Tonto National Forest and the Superstition Mountains, with the Boyce Thompson Arboretum just west of town on US-60 and the Resolution Copper project adjacent.
