About North Charleston
North Charleston is South Carolina's third-largest city (about 115,000 residents) and the metro's industrial and logistics engine, straddling Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties. It hosts Joint Base Charleston, Boeing's 787 Dreamliner final assembly plant and major port and rail terminals — thousands of engineering jobs live here. The housing stock is the metro's most affordable among the larger cities: mid-century ranch neighborhoods, newer subdivisions off Dorchester Road and Ashley Phosphate, and revitalizing pockets like Park Circle, which has become a food-and-drink destination in its own right.
