Efland is a census-designated place in Orange County with a 2020 census population of 852, located along U.S. Route 70 — 3 miles west of Hillsborough and 5 miles east of Mebane, with I-85 access at exit 160. Originally called Green Springs, Efland grew up as a mill village around the railroad, and its core still mixes historic mill houses with newer homes. The Efland Ruritan Club (chartered 1981) anchors community life with an annual rodeo, tractor pulls, and 4th of July and Christmas parades.
