About West Sacramento
West Sacramento ("West Sac") is a city in Yolo County directly across the Sacramento River from downtown Sacramento — the river is the county line. Incorporated January 1, 1987 from the historic communities of Broderick, Bryte, and West Sacramento (plus the large Southport area), it had 53,915 residents in 2020 (about 55,991 estimated in 2024). The traditional industrial center of the region since the Gold Rush era, it is one of the area's top four employment centers and was named the Most Livable City in America (under 100,000 residents) by the U.S. Conference of Mayors in 2014. Growth has been rapid: Southport added the Bridgeway, Gateway, River Ranch, and Newport neighborhoods in the 1990s–2000s, and the riverfront Bridge District now anchors new development.
