Tooele (pronounced too-WILL-uh) is the Tooele County seat, a city of about 37,000 residents (2020 Census) in Tooele Valley, west of the Oquirrh Mountains. A former mining and smelting town (the Tooele Valley Railway, Deseret Chemical Depot), it has grown into a Salt Lake bedroom community with a historic downtown, while retaining its rural-valley character. The Stansbury Mountains rise to the west.
