Seattle metro, WA relocation guide
Moving to Index, WA
About Index
Index is a town of just 155 residents (2020 Census) on the North Fork Skykomish River along US-2, one of the smallest incorporated towns in the Seattle metro (per Wikipedia, read September 24, 2026). It is world-known among rock climbers for the granite walls of Index Town Wall, and its setting — steep forested slopes rising straight from the river — is pure Cascades. There is essentially no commercial base; residents drive to Sultan, Monroe, or beyond for everything. It suits remote workers and recreation-first buyers, not commuters.
