About Puyallup
Puyallup (pew-AL-əp; Lushootseed: st̕iləqʷac, "strawberry plant") is a city of ~42,973 (2020 census) on the Puyallup River, about 10 miles southeast of Tacoma and 35 miles south of Seattle (per Wikipedia, read September 24, 2026). Its name honors the Puyallup Tribe ("the generous people"). It is home to the Washington State Fair — the state's largest annual fair — and has a genuine downtown, a working Sounder station, and one of the state's largest farmers markets. The Puyallup name also covers the adjacent unincorporated South Hill postal area.
