About El Dorado
El Dorado (2020 population 12,870) is the county seat of Butler County, about 30 minutes northeast of Wichita. Founded in 1868, it boomed with the 1915 oil discovery (the Stapleton No. 1 well) and remains an oil-patch and manufacturing center with a grand historic downtown.
