About Wichita
Wichita is the largest city in Kansas (2020 population 397,532) and the county seat of Sedgwick County, anchoring the metro at the confluence of the Arkansas and Little Arkansas rivers. It began as a trading post on the Chisholm Trail in the 1860s, incorporated in 1870, and grew into a cattle-drive "Cowtown" (Wyatt Earp served as a police officer here in 1875) before becoming the "Air Capital of the World" — home to Textron Aviation (Cessna, Beechcraft), Spirit AeroSystems, and McConnell Air Force Base.
