About Franklin
Franklin is the county seat and largest city of Heard County, with 950 residents in the 2020 census. Settled in 1770 and designated seat of the newly formed Heard County in 1831, it was named for Benjamin Franklin — a name it reportedly "stole" from the lower Troup County village that is now West Point, since the name was incorporated by the legislature first.
