About Monroe
Monroe is the county seat of Walton County, with 14,928 residents in the 2020 census. Founded in 1818 as the seat of the newly formed Walton County (named for Declaration of Independence signer George Walton), incorporated as a town in 1821 and as a city in 1896, it was named for President James Monroe.
