About Oxford
Oxford is a college city in Newton County, with 2,308 residents in the 2020 census. Established in 1839 by the Methodist Episcopal Church as the birthplace of Oxford College of Emory University (founded 1836, about a mile north of Covington) and incorporated as a city in 1914, it was named after Oxford University, the alma mater of the founders of the Methodist movement.
