About Cleveland
Cleveland (roughly 800–850 residents) is the only incorporated town in western Rowan County. It dates to 1831, when its first post office opened as Cowansville; it later became Rowan Mills (for a five-story flour mill), then Third Creek (for the railroad station), and was renamed Cleveland in 1884 for President Grover Cleveland (per the town's official history, read September 24, 2026). Once the center of dairy farming in the state, it remains a historic small town ringed by family horse and cattle farms, with a host of National Register sites in and around town.
