About Bloomingdale

A village of about 22,382 (2020 census) in DuPage County, roughly 25 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, Bloomingdale is one of the county's earliest settlements — the Meacham family arrived in 1833, when it was known as Meacham's Grove, and it became an important stop on the Chicago-Galena stagecoach road (modern Lake Street). The village's northern portion split off as Roselle in 1923; from 1950 to 1980 the population exploded from 338 to over 12,600 as farmland became suburbs.
