About Dell City

Dell City is a tiny remote farming city in Hudspeth County, the county's only incorporated municipality (~245 residents at the 2020 census; ~280 estimated in 2025). Set in the "Valley of Hidden Waters" — the Dell Valley — about 90 miles east of El Paso, it was founded in 1948–49 after oilman Don Connell drilled for water and found an aquifer, launching an irrigated-farming boom (cotton, alfalfa, chiles, melons, pecans) on the desert floor between the Guadalupe and Delaware Mountains. It incorporated in 1961. This is ranch and farm country, not a suburb: the economy is agriculture and oil/gas, the pace is slow, and the nearest full services are in El Paso.
