Newville is a borough of about 1,400 people (1,388 at the 2020 census) in west-central Cumberland County, west of Carlisle along Big Spring Creek. Settled in the 1700s (inception 1794), it is known for its historic character — Laughlin Mill, the William Denning Monument, and the fountain at Fountain Square — and for Big Spring Creek, one of Pennsylvania's premier limestone trout streams.
