Moving to Hidden Hills, CA
About Hidden Hills
Hidden Hills is a fully gated private equestrian city of 1,723 (2020 census; 2024 estimate 1,689, per citypopulation.de, read September 24, 2026) at the western end of the San Fernando Valley, on the border of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. Founded in 1950 by A.E. Hanson and incorporated on September 19, 1961 — partly to block the extension of Burbank Boulevard and annexation by Los Angeles — the city is governed jointly by a public city government and the private Hidden Hills Community Association (per the city's Housing Element, read September 24, 2026). Nearly the entire city sits behind guard gates. There are roughly 648 homesites on one-acre-minimum lots, with no commercial uses inside the gates (only a real estate office on Long Valley Road), no sidewalks, and no streetlights. Iconic white three-rail fences, barns, and about 25 miles of bridle trails define the landscape; the city is home to executives, celebrities, and equestrians, with one of the highest per-capita incomes in California.
