About Butler
Butler (population 1,787 at the 2020 census, per Wikipedia) is a small industrial village that exists because of the railroad — founded in fall 1909 when the Milwaukee, Sparta & North Western Railway (Chicago & North Western) bought farmland along 124th Street for rail yards to relieve Milwaukee congestion. It remains a working village: rail yards, light industry, and modest single-family homes and duplexes.
