About Liberty
Liberty is a census-designated place in the northwestern Ogden Valley, about 2 miles northwest of Eden and 4 miles across the North Ogden Divide east of North Ogden. Settled in 1859 as an outgrowth of Eden, it got its name when John Freeman observed that both cattle and people took "full liberty" here; a separate townsite was laid out in 1892. Traditionally a farming and ranching community, Liberty has become a recreational community and commuter town of about 1,522 residents (2020 Census). In November 2024 voters approved incorporating much of Ogden Valley — including Liberty — as the new Ogden Valley City (first elected mayor and council took office in January 2026).
