About Goochland
Goochland is a census-designated place in and the county seat of Goochland County — known locally as Goochland Courthouse. The 2020 census counted 899 residents. The community grew around the 1826 Goochland County Courthouse (replacing an 18th-century predecessor), and the county is named for Sir William Gooch, the colonial lieutenant governor. Today's Goochland village is a small courthouse crossroads with county offices, churches, and a handful of shops, set amid the county's mix of historic farms, James River frontage, and newer estate subdivisions. It is one of the Richmond metro's most rural-feeling county seats (per Wikipedia, read September 25, 2026).
