About Hemby Bridge
Hemby Bridge (1,615 residents at the 2020 census) is a small Union County town incorporated in 1998, named for a bridge spanning Crooked Creek that was owned by Dawson Hemby (per Wikipedia, read September 24, 2026). Its motto is "Great People, Great Community," and it is unique in Union County for having no property tax — none imposed since 2009. The town centers on Hemby Bridge Elementary and a state-of-the-art volunteer fire department; residents decorate the town each Christmas starting at the Secrest Shortcut and Indian Trail-Fairview roads intersection, and lean on nearby Indian Trail and Stallings for shopping and amenities.
