About Landis
Landis (3,690 residents at the 2020 census) is a southern Rowan County town incorporated in 1901 as a textile town; its largest mill was the Linn Mill Company, and many historic mill-era buildings survive downtown (per Wikipedia and Visit Rowan County, read September 24, 2026). Landis is unusual in the 21st-century energy economy: it has owned and operated its own municipal electrical system since 1917, supplying power to residents and businesses in town and across southern Rowan County. Less than five miles from downtown Kannapolis and the North Carolina Research Campus, Landis is growing as a bedroom community for both Charlotte and Concord/Kannapolis, with affordable housing and quick interstate access.
