Coalinga (~17,000 residents) sits on the far west side of Fresno County, about 12 miles west of I-5, midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It is the "Home of the Horned Toads" — the high school's one-of-a-kind mascot, dating to 1938, grew out of the Annual Running of the Horned Toads festival first staged in 1933.
