About Huron
Huron (~7,000 residents) is a small farm city in southwestern Fresno County, about 60–70 minutes from Fresno, calling itself "The Heart of the Valley." Agriculture is the entire economy — lettuce, tomatoes, grapes, almonds, and pistachios grown on Westlands Water District land — and the city has long been a center of seasonal farmworker life. Named for Lake Huron and incorporated in 1951, Huron sits near Arroyo Pasajero Creek, where growers and the city are piloting groundwater-recharge projects. The "Huron the Beautiful" vision plan proposes turning a nearby flood-detention basin into a restoration and recreation campus. It is a working agricultural town, not a commuter suburb, with some of the Valley's most affordable housing.
