Moving to Pickens, SC
About Pickens
Pickens is the county seat of Pickens County, founded 1868 and named for Revolutionary War hero Gen. Andrew Pickens. True to its motto — "Where the Mountains Begin" — this "Gem of the Foothills" sits at the foot of the Blue Ridge on the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway (SC-11). It cherishes Appalachian roots: the 1845 Hagood Mill gristmill still grinds corn on monthly festival days, and the old county jail downtown houses the Pickens County Museum of Art & History. The 8.5-mile Doodle Trail rail-trail runs to Easley; Table Rock State Park is a short drive north.
