About Arvada
Arvada (population 124,402 in 2020) is a large northwest suburb straddling Jefferson and Adams counties, about 10 miles from downtown Denver. Gold was first discovered in Colorado along Ralston Creek here in 1850, and the town — platted in 1870 and named for Hiram Arvada Haskins — grew as a farming community before postwar subdivisions made it Denver's second-largest suburb. Today it pairs a revived historic core, Olde Town Arvada, with master-planned newer neighborhoods like Candelas, extensive open space, and the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, one of the metro's largest cultural centers.
