About Brighton
Brighton (population 40,083 in 2020) is the Adams County seat, about 20 miles northeast of downtown Denver at the South Platte River. Founded in the 1870s as Hughes Station and renamed for Brighton Beach, New York, it grew as an agricultural and sugar-beet town — the Great Western Sugar factory shaped its economy for decades. Today it is a growing commuter city with a historic Main Street downtown, the 2,715-acre Barr Lake State Park on its southeast edge, and the fast-growing Bromley Park and Prairie Center developments.
