About Commerce City
Commerce City (population 62,418 in 2020) is a large northeast-metro city in Adams County, about 8 miles from downtown Denver. Founded as an 1850s settlement and incorporated in 1952 (renamed from Commerce Town in 1962), it grew around rail yards, the Rocky Mountain Arsenal military complex, and oil refineries — and is now one of the metro's fastest-growing cities, with the master-planned Reunion community adding thousands of homes. The 15,000-acre Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, a restored Superfund site with bison herds, anchors its east side, and Dick's Sporting Goods Park hosts the Colorado Rapids.
