About Idaho Springs
Idaho Springs (population 1,782 in 2020) is a Clear Creek County city about 30 miles west of downtown Denver on I-70. Founded in 1859 at the site of Colorado's first major gold discovery, it grew around hot springs that still anchor the town — Indian Hot Springs remains a landmark. Miner Street (shown in the Commons photo below) is the preserved main street, and the town is the gateway to Mount Blue Sky (formerly Mount Evans) via the highest paved road in North America.
