About Westminster
Westminster (population 116,317 in 2020) is a large north-metro suburb in Adams and Jefferson counties, about 10 miles north of downtown Denver. Founded during the 1859 gold rush and named by early settlers for England's Westminster, it grew around the landmark red-sandstone Westminster Castle (built 1892 as Westminster University, "the Princeton of the West"). Today it blends established neighborhoods with the Westminster Promenade entertainment district, the Orchard Town Center, and the nationally known Butterfly Pavilion. The new downtown Westminster redevelopment is reshaping the city's core around a civic plaza.
