About Morton
Morton is a small city in Scott County (~3,500 residents), southwest of Forest on I-20 about 30 miles east of Jackson. Named for the early-settler Morton family, it's best known as the home of Roosevelt State Park — one of Mississippi's original CCC-built state parks (begun 1935, opened 1940, National Register-listed) wrapping around 150-acre Shadow Lake at the western edge of the Bienville National Forest.
