East Granby is a small rural town of about 5,210 people in Hartford County, northwest of Hartford. Its historic district holds one of the state's highest concentrations of surviving 18th- and early 19th-century farmsteads in a relatively unaltered landscape, and the town is home to Old Newgate Prison — an 18th-century copper mine turned Revolutionary War prison.
