About Enfield

Enfield is the region's largest northern suburb — about 42,140 people — straddling I-91 along the Connecticut River just south of the Massachusetts line. It grew from a colonial town (originally part of Massachusetts until a 1749 border correction) into a mill and manufacturing center: Bigelow-Sanford carpets and Colonel Hazard's gunpowder works in the 19th century, then modern employers like Lego (whose U.S. headquarters is leaving for Boston) and MassMutual.
