About Edinburg
Edinburg (pop. 100,243 in the 2020 census; est. 110,700 in 2025) is the county seat of Hidalgo County and the second-largest city in the county — a university town anchored by the main campus of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), whose first class began in fall 2015. As the seat of county government, it holds most major Hidalgo County offices plus the U.S. Border Patrol Rio Grande Valley Sector headquarters. Housing mixes established neighborhoods near the courthouse square with newer subdivisions spreading north and east; the economy leans on government, health care, education, and retail.
