Carlton is a small wine-country city (2020 census population about 2,220; incorporated 1899) in the heart of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, a few miles north of McMinnville on OR-47. Once a railroad and timber town, Carlton has become a tasting-room destination: its compact downtown of historic brick buildings now houses wineries and restaurants drawing visitors from across the Willamette Valley.
