Decatur is a small city in western Benton County, named for Commodore Stephen Decatur Jr. The population was 1,773 at the 2020 census (estimated 1,893 in 2025). A rural, poultry-industry community at the junction of Highways 59 and 102, it has a population (one-third Hispanic/Latino at the 2020 census) and a historic downtown anchored by the 1920 Kansas City-Southern Depot. On May 26, 2024, a tornado — reportedly the widest in Arkansas state history at 1.82 miles — struck the west side of the community (per Wikipedia, read September 24, 2026).
