About Pea Ridge
Pea Ridge is a city in northern Benton County — motto "Life's Better on the Ridge" — named for its position on an Ozark ridge and the hog peanuts ("turkey peas") once cultivated there. Best known as the namesake of the pivotal Civil War Battle of Pea Ridge (the Battle of Elkhorn Tavern), fought about 5 miles east of town and preserved at Pea Ridge National Military Park. Its downtown commercial district is on the National Register of Historic Places.
