About Sulphur Springs
Sulphur Springs is a city (481 residents at the 2020 census) in northeast Benton County near the Missouri and Oklahoma borders, incorporated August 26, 1890. In the late 1800s and early 1900s it was an important spa and resort center built around natural mineral springs — including a rare lithium spring — and was a terminal of the Kansas City Southern Railway. Later it hosted a John Brown University campus (1924–26), Camp Wycliffe of Wycliffe Bible Translators (founded 1934).
