About Willamina

Willamina is a former timber and brick-manufacturing town that straddles the Yamhill–Polk county line in western Yamhill County (2020 census population about 2,400). Named for pioneer woman Willamina Craig Maley Williams, it was dubbed "Timber Town USA" when logging and sawmills drove its economy — mills were cutting some 350,000 board feet a day by 1939. An earlier boom came from the Pacific Face Brick Company (1907–1974), whose bricks were used in the Portland Art Museum, Jackson Tower, Lloyd Center, and the Yamhill County Courthouse. Hampton Lumber still operates mills near town, and Willamina keeps a working-town feel at the edge of the Coast Range foothills.
