About Yacolt
Yacolt (~1,600 residents per the 2024 Census estimate) is a Cascade-foothills town in north-central Clark County, about 22 miles northeast of Vancouver and 32 miles southwest of Mount St. Helens. Its name comes from the Klickitat word "Yalicolb" ("haunted place"), and it is best known for the 1902 Yacolt Burn — the largest forest fire in Washington history (238,920 acres), which the town itself largely escaped. Incorporated in 1908 as a timber and railroad town, it remains a genuinely rural community: acreage, forestland, and a slower pace, with the Yacolt Burn State Forest as its backyard.
